The International Airborne Society was founded in 1992 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Purpose of the organization is to give all interested paratroopers an opportunity to socialize with like minded individuals on an international level. Our goals are to promote peace through cultural understanding, by way of visits to and parachute jumps with foreign militaries. While on active duty, few paratroopers ever get the opportunity to participate in airborne operations with foreign troops, or much less, visit foreign countries to take part in parachute jumps with the local paratroopers. However, when such opportunities do arise they are usually dominated by high ranking staff officers, looking to put another badge on their uniform. Recognizing that paratroopers of all ranks and services share the bond and esprit de corps unique only to airborne troopers, we make our activities available to all interested individuals, male and female alike, regardless of rank or former military status. |

Past participants have come from all walks of life and have included doctors, lawyers, postal worker, police officers, and truck drivers, to name just a few. We also welcome spouses and significant others to accompany our tours to get a first hand impression of the uniqueness of paratroopers.
Individuals who are not jump qualified, but would like to experience what it is like to jump with airborne forces may become qualified by participating in one of our beginner training courses, which is hosted by a foreign military jump school (not a civilian sports club). Please click on “Beginners” for more information and schedule of upcoming Beginner Training Courses..
Even though many tours usually also include a familiarization firing with host nation paratrooper weapons, we do not provide paramilitary training, and we are not a “militia type” organization. Further, we discourage participation of any individual “looking for a place to happen.” Our goals are amicable in nature and are geared towards creating international friendships among paratroopers, visit and jump with foreign troops, learn about the culture of the host countries, and come home with fond memories and the award of the host nations military parachutist badge. |
|
Some of our past participants, who are active in the business community, have even used our operations to build international business relationships with host country officers and military retirees. |
